At Developer Tools Bhutan, we believe growth happens when eagerness to learn meets opportunity—and our intern proved just that. In this post, we sit down (virtually :D) with one of our recent interns, a fourth-year IT student from the College of Science and Technology, to reflect on his journey with us. From nervous first impressions to impactful contributions and big takeaways, here’s how one internship turned into so much more.
First Impressions: More Than Just Code
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and what drew you to Developer Tools Bhutan.
I’m currently in my final year pursuing a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology. My interests lie in front-end development and UI/UX design, and as part of my college curriculum, I had to complete a 3-month internship. I was exploring potential companies when I came across Developer Tools Bhutan. As a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) company working with .NET technologies, DTB stood out—and I was eager to be a part of something innovative and globally connected.
Q: What were your first impressions of DTB, and how did they evolve?
Honestly, I expected a rigid environment with intense deadlines and very formal interactions. But from day one, I was met with warmth, flexibility, and an open-door culture that surprised me. DTB is professional, no doubt—but it’s also a community that thrives on collaboration and shared learning. That totally changed how I saw things and made coming in every day something I actually looked forward to.
A Look Inside the Internship
Q: What did your day-to-day look like? What kinds of projects did you contribute to?
Every day was different but always meaningful. I spent time learning C# and .NET through online resources, worked on mini WinForms projects, and contributed to team meetings like sprint demos and stand-ups. Here’s a quick snapshot of some of my key tasks:
Each project gave me a clearer picture of how software development works in the real world.
What I Contributed—and What I Gained

Q: What skills did you start with, and what did you gain?
I came in with a solid base in programming, UI/UX design, and video editing. But my time at DTB helped me level up in so many ways.
Contributed:
- UI/UX Design
- Programming knowledge
- Videography & editing
- Time management skills
- A strong work ethic
Gained:
- Hands-on proficiency in C# and .NET
- Experience with JIRA, Bitbucket, and SourceTree
- Understanding of WinForms development
- An appreciation for documentation and communication
- Deeper insight into clean code and full stack thinking
- Exposure to professionalism and productive team dynamics
Making an Impact
Q: Did you feel your contributions made a difference?
Definitely. A few moments really stand out:
- I presented a website UI design, which was later approved (and I was offered a contract to build it!)
- Collaborated on the Demo Explorer UI (some of my designs made it into the final version!)
- Produced videos for internal knowledge-sharing, which were well received!
Each of these moments showed me that my work mattered—and that was incredibly motivating.
Surprises, Challenges, and Favourite Moments
Q: What surprised or challenged you the most during the internship?
The most surprising part? Getting not just one—but three offers during my internship: a project contract, a remote contract, and a full-time job offer. I didn’t expect that at all.
The biggest challenge was integrating full-stack features into my WinForms application after getting feedback from Adriele. Time was tight, so I focused on high-priority features and made thoughtful compromises to deliver a working solution on time.
Q: Favourite memory?
The day I presented my UI design and walked out with a contract and a job offer—that was unforgettable. A close second was the bike ride with the team—a great way to bond outside the office.

The DTB Culture: Growth, Guidance, and Great Coffee
Q: How would you describe the work culture at DTB?
DTB is structured but not stiff. The culture fosters both professional and personal growth, and people genuinely want to help each other succeed. From Adriele’s feedback that challenged me to grow, to Aiko’s mentorship on design—it felt like everyone had my back. I would also like to acknowledge Dendup, our Tech Lead, for his constant guidance throughout the internship period.
Q: Be honest—how’s the coffee and snack game at DTB?
Top-notch. My go-to was a large coffee paired with Adriele’s muffins. Seriously—don’t change a thing, just keep those snacks coming!
Looking Ahead: Intern Today, Developer Tomorrow?
Q: How has this internship shaped your goals?
Before this, I didn’t have a clear picture of .NET beyond what we learned in class—which wasn’t always positive. Now, I’ve chosen to use .NET for my final-year project and I’m genuinely excited about its potential. This experience has shifted how I think about my career in tech, and I’m more committed than ever to writing clean code, staying professional, and continually learning.
Q: One lesson you’ll take with you?
That growth is all about exploration, learning, and communication. Be curious, stay open, and never stop asking questions.
Q: Final thoughts—would you return to DTB in the future?
Absolutely. If the opportunity and conditions align, I’d be thrilled to come back as a full-time employee. DTB offers the kind of environment I want to build my career in—supportive, challenging, and full of opportunity.
From first impressions to final reflections, this internship has been a journey of transformation. We appreciate the work our intern has accomplished, and it has been a privilege to watch this journey unfold. Who knows? You might just see Suzal Wakhley back here soon—this time, as part of the team!
